Kai Niggemann creates a poetically abstract music with the help of a Buchla 200e Electric Music Box.
He uses the modular synthesizer and the included modules such as the “Model 266e Source of Uncertainty” as a path out of the comfort zone, away from the safety of the computer and into a soundworld, shaped by the here and now, from the floating moment, with the Source of uncertainty as a partner for improvisation.
Kai seeks out timbres and rhythmical structures beyond diatonic/four to the floor, that evolve from the composer’s weighing of random sources. Usually working with his back towards the audience he offers a view over his shoulder how this he creates the music and tonalities.
